Das Abschlussmagazin der Lehrredaktion 55B hat den European Magazine Award 2019 in der Kategorie “Rookie” gewonnen. Die international besetzte Jury kürte SMOKE damit zum besten Nachwuchsmagazin Europas. Das Heft wurde von 15 Studierenden als Zielgruppenmagazin gegen den Zeitgeist konzipiert und realisiert.
Chefredakteur Niclas Seydack sagte: “Wir wissen, dass dieses Heft polarisiert. Umso größer ist unsere Freude, dass die Jury unseren Mut zum Anecken auszeichnet.” SMOKE sei ein Gegenentwurf zu den überall präsenten Selbstoptimierungsmagazinen: ein Zielgruppenheft voll Luxus und Lebensfreude, das Rauchen als Akt der Rebellion feiere, ohne die dunklen Seiten zu verstecken, auch Krankheit und Tod.
In SMOKE erinnern sich Prominente an ihre erste Zigarette. Autorin und Cover-Model Ronja von Rönne schwärmt von der Schönheit der Raucherin. Ein Zigarren-Connaisseur zeigt seinen Millionen-Euro-Humidor. Für das Heft inszenierte die Redaktion die Aschenbecher der Saison und begleitete eine Nichtraucherschutz-Streife. Und sie erzählt die Geschichte einer Kettenraucher-Familie, in der ausgerechnet der einzige Nichtraucher Lungenkrebs bekommt.
“Die DJS ist wohl der einzige Ort der Welt, an dem junge Journalisten mit so einer irren Idee – einem Magazin für Raucher! – nicht verlacht werden,” sagte Seydack. “Sondern ermutigt, mit Unterstützung von Dozenten, ein Magazin zu erfinden.” Zum Beratungsteam der 55B gehörten Jan Weiler (Konzept), Wolfgang Maria Weber (Foto), Jennifer Kalisch (Design) und Chris Bleher (Text). Jeder Jahrgang der DJS produziert sein eigenes Magazin in der Reihe „Klartext“. Der European Magazine Award wird beim European Newspaper Congress in Wien verliehen.
